Moscow BRICS Fashion Summit: India’s Designers Eye Global Opportunities

New Delhi, 14 October, 2024 – Russia, India, and China are emerging as powerful forces in the global economy, dramatically reshaping the modern fashion industry. The BRICS+ Fashion Summit, kicking off on October 3rd in Moscow, promises to be a crucial platform for collaboration between these nations and other fast-growing economies. The Summit brings together professionals from over 100 countries, including designers, leading textile executives, manufacturers, renowned lecturers, and other fashion experts.

India, the world’s second-largest textile producer, is steadily increasing its influence on the international fashion scene. The BRICS+ alliance, chaired by Russia in 2024, presents a significant opportunity for India, particularly as both countries have been actively sharing fashion expertise. Recent collaborations include the showcasing of the modest fashion brand Measure (from Dagestan) at Lakmé Fashion Week in India, and the participation of Indian designers Shruti Sancheti, Gaurav Khanijo, Ritesh Kumar, and Naushad Ali at last year’s BRICS+ Fashion Summit. These projects provide a platform for young, talented designers to enter the global market.

Sunil Sethi, Chairman of The Fashion Design Council of India, highlights the immense potential for cooperation between the two countries’ fashion associations. “India’s presence in the Russian fashion market presents immense potential. Indian designers can leverage platforms like the BRICS+ Fashion Summit to enter the Russian market with collections that blend tradition and contemporary appeal. On the other hand, Russian designers have significant opportunities in India’s growing luxury and lifestyle market. The BRICS+ Fashion Summit could further accelerate these exchanges, opening doors to new creative and commercial ventures for both countries”.

Beyond Business Program, the BRICS+ Fashion Summit features an educational program for fashion industry players.  Professor Dr. Deepti Gupta from the Department of Textile and Fiber Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) will be among the speakers. The course will cover strategies for entering new markets and building successful brands.

Another significant fashion event this season is Moscow Fashion Week, running concurrently with the BRICS+ Fashion Summit from October 4 to 9. The Delhi-based brand NITIN BAL CHAUHAN, presented by the Fashion Design Council of India will participate. It’s a brand recognized by fashion experts as one of the most exciting and promising in the Indian fashion industry. The designer expertly combines fashion and fine art and has already received international acclaim. Previously showcased at London Fashion Week and Tokyo Fashion Week, the Indian brand is set to make a powerful statement in the Russian capital.
