New pedestrian skywalk connects Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station to ITPB and Park Square Mall
Bengaluru, 17 January 2026: In a significant step toward strengthening urban mobility and last-mile connectivity in Bengaluru, International Tech Park Bangalore (ITPB) has inaugurated the ‘ITPB Metro Skywalk’, a dedicated pedestrian bridge connecting Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station (Purple Line) directly to ITPB and Park Square Mall. The new infrastructure is designed to offer a safe, seamless, and time-efficient commute for over 55,000 professionals working at the business park, while encouraging greater adoption of eco-friendly public transport.
Joint Inauguration Marks Public–Private Collaboration
The ITPB Metro Skywalk was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Gauri Shankar Nagabhushanam, CEO, CapitaLand India Trust, and Mr. Subramanya Gudge, Director – Project & Planning, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), representing Dr. J. Ravishankar, IAS, Managing Director, BMRCL. The inauguration was attended by senior representatives from ITPB’s leading tenant companies, including Tata Consultancy Services, Applied Materials, Société Générale, Light & Wonder, AT&T, Sabre, Capital One, Mu Sigma, Conduent India, SG Lottery India, and HCL, reflecting the collective importance of the project to Bengaluru’s technology ecosystem.
A Key Milestone in Whitefield’s Infrastructure Development
The inauguration of the ITPB Metro Skywalk marks a crucial milestone in addressing Bengaluru’s evolving infrastructure needs, particularly in the rapidly growing Whitefield corridor. By providing a direct, elevated pedestrian connection between the metro station, the business park, and the retail destination, the skywalk significantly reduces congestion at street level and improves traffic flow in one of the city’s busiest commercial zones.
Beyond serving daily office commuters, the new link also enhances accessibility for residents and shoppers visiting Park Square Mall, reinforcing ITPB’s position as an integrated business and lifestyle destination.
Leadership Perspectives on Sustainable Urban Mobility
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Gauri Shankar Nagabhushanam, CEO, CapitaLand India Trust, said:
“At ITPB, we are committed to enhancing convenience, safety, and accessibility for our clients and park professionals. The Metro Skywalk is a critical addition to our infrastructure, ensuring safer movement for pedestrians and motorists while benefiting the broader Whitefield community. This project underscores our focus on building people-centric, sustainable business parks in Bengaluru.”
Echoing the importance of last-mile connectivity, Dr. J. Ravishankar, IAS, Managing Director, BMRCL, stated:
“The ITPB Metro Skywalk is a strong example of effective public–private collaboration that enhances last-mile connectivity and improves the overall commuter experience. Seamless pedestrian linkages between metro stations and major activity hubs are essential to increasing metro accessibility, encouraging public transport usage, and supporting sustainable urban mobility in Bengaluru.”
Engineering, Design, and Sustainability at the Core
Spanning 320 feet in length and elevated 24 feet above road level, the ITPB Metro Skywalk has been engineered to ensure uninterrupted pedestrian movement while maintaining smooth vehicular flow below. Constructed using durable structural steel and reinforced concrete, the skywalk is designed to withstand high footfall while offering long-term structural resilience.
The modern design combines functionality with aesthetic appeal, providing commuters with direct access from the metro station to Park Square Mall and ITPB without the need to cross busy roads. This significantly enhances commuter safety and reduces travel time during peak hours.
Sustainability is a key feature of the project. The skywalk incorporates energy-efficient LED lighting, eco-friendly construction materials, and thoughtful design elements that minimise environmental impact. Accessibility has also been prioritised, with wide walkways, smooth ramps, elevators, and barrier-free access, ensuring ease of use for all pedestrians, including senior citizens and people with mobility challenges.
Strengthening Bengaluru’s Public Transport Ecosystem
The ITPB Metro Skywalk is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Bengaluru’s public transport ecosystem by making metro usage more convenient and attractive for daily commuters. By integrating transit, workplace, and retail access into a single, seamless experience, the skywalk supports the city’s broader goals of reducing road congestion, lowering carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable commuting practices.
