Roopa Iyer’s ‘Azad Bharath’: Amruta Fadnavis, Suresh Oberoi & Shreyas Talpade Share Untold Stories

Roopa Iyer’s upcoming film Azad Bharath emerges as a stirring tribute to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, his revolutionary ideals, and especially his pioneering efforts in empowering women through the iconic Rani Jhansi Regiment. At its heart, the film illuminates the extraordinary yet largely forgotten journey of Neera Arya—one of India’s fiercest women freedom fighters—alongside countless unsung heroes who devoted their lives to the nation’s independence.

Produced by Zee Studios, Azad Bharath features Shreyas Talpade in the role of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, bringing his depth and versatility to one of India’s most powerful historic personalities. The legendary Suresh Oberoi portrays freedom fighter Chhaju Ramji, adding gravitas and emotional depth to the narrative. Roopa Iyer, who not only directs and produces the film but also plays Neera Arya, takes on a rare triple responsibility to ensure this forgotten chapter of history is told with authenticity and passion. Adding to the film’s patriotic resonance, Amruta Fadnavis has lent her voice to the film’s anthem.

Speaking about the project, Amruta Fadnavis shared heartfelt admiration for the team behind Azad Bharath. “It’s an honour to be here. Azad Bharath is a beautiful film that gloriously conveys the story of Neera Arya. Roopa Iyer has portrayed the character, directed the film, and produced it—wearing three hats in a single project is something truly commendable. Suresh ji (Suresh Oberoi) is an inspiration to all of us. I feel privileged to lend my voice to the national anthem in the film. I’m grateful that I could contribute even a small part to such a prestigious project that honours Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ji’s legacy,” she said.

Amruta also emphasised the significance of highlighting women’s roles in India’s freedom struggle. “The most inspiring aspect of Netaji’s legacy is how he uplifted women and formed the Rani Jhansi Regiment. There is almost no mention of Neera Arya in mainstream history, and I thank Roopa for bringing such untold stories to the forefront. With the film releasing on 2nd January—just weeks before Netaji’s birth anniversary—we can truly pay tribute to him by watching and supporting this film.”

Director and actor Roopa Iyer spoke with deep emotion about the spiritual journey that shaped the making of Azad Bharath. “I feel blessed because the Almighty has guided me at every step—whether it was choosing the actors or connecting with them. When Shreyas ji asked me why I envisioned him as Netaji, I said that his versatility and ability to completely inhabit any character made him the perfect choice,” she revealed.

Roopa further highlighted the film’s message for today’s youth. “This film is a must-watch for the younger generation, who often feel they lack something despite having every modern comfort. The story of Neera Arya, the Rani Jhansi Regiment, and countless other unsung heroes shows how these freedom fighters, even as teenagers with almost nothing, dedicated their entire lives to their motherland and to Netaji.”

Azad Bharath is set for a worldwide release on 2nd January 2026, coinciding with the month of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 129th birth anniversary on 23rd January. With powerful performances by Shreyas Talpade, Roopa Iyer, and Suresh Oberoi, and backed by the cinematic vision of Zee Studios, the film has already generated significant anticipation. As audiences await its release, Azad Bharath promises to not only educate but also inspire—shedding light on stories that deserve to be remembered for generations to come.e
