New Delhi, June 2026: Residents and local traders in New Kondli have raised concerns over increasing encroachment in the area and alleged labour-related disputes, urging authorities to intervene. Locals claim that growing encroachments on footpaths, public pathways, and community spaces are causing daily inconvenience to residents.
According to residents, several areas no longer have adequate space for pedestrians, creating difficulties, particularly for senior citizens, women, and children.
Local shopkeeper Mrs. Vimlesh said, “The situation has reached a point where people barely have space to walk. Due to increasing encroachments on public pathways, many are forced to walk on the road.”
Residents have also expressed concern over the increasing disorder in the locality and the use of public spaces. Some locals allege that when questions were raised regarding encroachments, shop operator Rishi Gupta reportedly responded, “Everyone is doing it.” Residents argue that such a mindset contributes to the persistence of the problem and have called for an impartial inquiry into the matter.
In addition, allegations regarding labour rights and wage payments have surfaced. Ramesh, who claims to have previously worked as a salesman in the area, alleged that he worked at Shiva Garments but did not receive his full wages despite completing his duties. He further claimed that when he sought payment, he was intimidated, eventually forcing him to leave the job.
Ramesh stated, “I worked honestly and asked for the wages I had earned, but I was not paid in full and eventually had to leave my job.”
Local residents have urged the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Labour Department, and the district administration to investigate the matter, ensure that public spaces are freed from encroachments, and conduct a fair inquiry into the labour-related allegations.
Residents maintain that while business activity and employment are important, safeguarding public amenities and protecting workers’ rights are equally essential.
