In a tribute to India’s vibrant spirit of women entrepreneurship and their impactful role in the economic landscape, Swiggy, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, has unveiled a new initiative titled “She The Change – From Vision to Venture.” This initiative, inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, highlights the significant contribution of women to the food and beverage (F&B) industry and underscores Swiggy’s commitment to fostering women’s entrepreneurship in the country.
Commemorating nearly a decade of collaboration with women entrepreneurs, Swiggy aims to spotlight their journey ‘from vision to venture’ in the F&B sector, catering to both budding and established women entrepreneurs. The launch event served as a platform for accomplished women entrepreneurs in F&B from across India, along with distinguished figures from economics and academia, and Swiggy’s leadership including Sriharsha Majety, Group CEO, Swiggy, and Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Food Marketplace, Swiggy.
Swiggy boasts over 50,000 women-run restaurants on its platform, generating approximately three hundred thousand jobs. The company believes that this is just the beginning of women’s contribution to the F&B sector, which accounts for around three per cent of the country’s GDP.
The Honourable Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs commended Swiggy’s role in encouraging and recognizing women-led businesses, aligning with the Honourable Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Nari Shakti’ or women empowerment.
Speaking at the occasion, the Honourable Minister highlighted the vibrancy in women-led enterprises and praised initiatives like Swiggy’s “She the Change” for empowering women entrepreneurs nationwide.
Sriharsha Majety, Group CEO of Swiggy, emphasized that ‘She The Change’ serves as a platform to honor and amplify the remarkable stories of women entrepreneurs in the F&B industry, acknowledging their role in shaping India’s economic narrative.
Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, added that the initiative aims to empower women entrepreneurs with access to resources for sustained success and meaningful impact.
Ashni Shah, Co-founder of NOTO- Healthy Ice Cream, expressed gratitude for the recognition provided by Swiggy’s initiative, highlighting the platform’s contribution towards enhancing visibility and increasing order volumes for women-led businesses.
Swiggy’s mission to offer unparalleled convenience to consumers has empowered numerous restaurants, especially in smaller towns. Priya Sharma of Bonfire Pizza, Rishikesh, shared her transformative journey post-partnership with Swiggy, emphasizing the platform’s role in helping women-led businesses turn their vision into reality.
The event concluded with the facilitation of women entrepreneurs from across the country, celebrating their remarkable contributions and inspiring journeys in creating a difference through their ventures.
