India’s National Technology Day Marks a Defining Leap Toward Deep-Tech Leadership
National, 11th May 2026: Today, as India celebrates National Technology Day, we are also witnessing a transformative chapter in the nation’s technological renaissance. The launch of the National Quantum Mission, coupled with the ‘SHAKTI’ policy framework and the landmark ₹1.2 lakh crore R&D allocation, represents a decisive step toward deep-tech self-reliance and innovation-led growth.
On behalf of the global Pan IIT Alumni community, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for his visionary leadership in positioning India at the forefront of quantum computing, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and next-generation technologies.
A Call to IITians Worldwide: Lead India’s Deep-Tech Revolution
To every IITian across the globe — this is your moment, your mission, and your responsibility.
The era of incremental coding and service-led growth is rapidly evolving into a new age defined by foundational science, advanced hardware, and transformative systems that will shape the coming decades. I urge IIT alumni across academia, startups, research institutions, and multinational corporations to actively pivot toward deep-tech innovation, including quantum algorithms, post-quantum cryptography, advanced materials, semiconductor fabrication, and indigenous technology ecosystems.
Let us not merely build for India — let us build with India’s intellectual strength, scientific excellence, and national purpose. Let us mentor future innovators, accelerate patents, commercialize research breakthroughs, and transform our laboratories into engines of economic sovereignty.
I once again appeal to our global alumni community to return from “Silicon Valley to the new Indus Valley” and contribute meaningfully to India’s extraordinary deep-tech journey.
Message to Corporate India: Drive National Growth Through Innovation and Responsibility
To corporate leaders and industry captains, I offer a two-fold appeal:
1. Institutionalize Work-From-Home and Hybrid Models
In alignment with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call for fuel conservation and reduced travel to protect India’s foreign exchange reserves amid global economic uncertainties, businesses should embrace flexible work models wherever feasible. Doing so can reduce operational costs, improve productivity, and directly support national economic resilience.
2. Partner with the National Quantum Mission
Corporate India must become an active participant in India’s technological future by funding academic chairs, sponsoring deep-tech incubators, supporting advanced R&D, and offering sabbaticals that enable IIT alumni and researchers to return to innovation ecosystems. Corporate investments can become catalysts of national pride and technological sovereignty.
A Defining Moment for Nation-Building
Let National Technology Day 2026 be remembered not merely as a celebration of innovation, but as the day India collectively chose courage over comfort, research over routine, and nation-building over convention.
Mr. Prabhat Kumar, IRS
Chairman, Pan IIT Alumni India
