Rocking Star Yash Reveals How He Balances Writer, Producer And Superstar Responsibilities For Toxic

Yash opens up about seamlessly switching mindsets while shaping one of his most ambitious films yet

Rocking Star Yash is not only leading one of India’s most anticipated pan-India projects, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, but is also playing a pivotal role behind the scenes in shaping its creative and business vision. Taking on the challenging responsibilities of writer, producer, and lead actor, Yash recently shared how managing these multiple roles requires him to constantly shift his mindset throughout the filmmaking journey.

In a candid conversation with Variety, Yash explained how each role demands a completely different perspective. According to him, writing is where creativity should flow freely without limitations, while producing requires practical decision-making, logistical planning, and business awareness.

He said, “When you’re writing, you should not think like a producer when you’re writing on paper. But once it’s written, the next point is to think as a producer — what are the logistics, how much does this take, how much business sense does it make. Because by the end of the day, a lot of people depend on cinema, so many people work on it, their livelihood depends on this profession.”

Yash further revealed that once he steps onto the set as an actor, his focus changes entirely toward performance and storytelling. He emphasized that despite the collective effort of the team, the actor carries the ultimate responsibility of bringing the vision alive on screen.

“And then when I come on screen, I only think about what the writer or director is trying to say through that scene. As an actor, I carry all the responsibilities because everybody gives their best work, but if the actor doesn’t anchor it properly, everything goes for waste,” he shared.

Over the years, Yash has earned a reputation for being deeply involved in the creative aspects of his films, often contributing significantly behind the scenes without formal recognition. However, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups marks a major milestone in his career as it is the first project where he has officially taken on writing responsibilities, making it one of his most personal and creatively significant ventures to date.

Directed and written by Geetu Mohandas, the film is produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. Alongside Yash, the film boasts a star-studded ensemble featuring Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria in key roles. With such a powerful combination of talent on and off screen, Toxic is shaping up to be a landmark cinematic event.
