As Ek Chatur Naar gears up for release, lead actress Divya Khossla opened up about the lengths she went to for authenticity. From living in a slum for a week to mastering the Uttar Pradesh dialect, Divya shared her behind-the-scenes journey into the character.
Learning the UP Language
In a candid chat on Archana Puran Singh’s vlog, Divya revealed,
“I didn’t know the UP language, but I learnt it and practised at home. Later, our director made me live in a slum for almost a week.”
She added that she even grew accustomed to the stench of the gutter next to her hut, which became part of her daily reality during the preparation.
Real Reactions on Set
Director Umesh Shukla disclosed that some scenes were shot without informing the actors of the location to capture genuine reactions.
“The naala scene that we made Divya do, we didn’t inform her about the location. We just took her there and made her stand,” he said.
Recalling the moment, Divya added,
“I was this close to falling in there. I was extremely scared. They made me do everything, including sweeping, scrubbing, and cleaning.”
Improvisation and Research
Beyond physical immersion, Divya also improvised one of her monologues, which Shukla described as “extremely popular.” To perfect her role, she studied influencer videos from Uttar Pradesh, interacted with staff members to grasp local slang, and even picked up a few cuss words for authenticity.
A Wit-Driven Story
Directed by Umesh Shukla, Ek Chatur Naar pairs Divya Khossla with Neil Nitin Mukesh for the first time. The film follows a sharp, witty woman who constantly outsmarts those around her. Promising a rollercoaster of laughter and drama, Ek Chatur Naar hits theatres on 12th September.
