International Youth Day is observed on August 12, and actor Worship Khanna, who has been a part of shows like Kumkum Bhagya, Meri Doli Mere Angana, and Ishq Subhan Allah and web series like Hello Jee, Cold Lassi and Chicken Masala, and is currently seen in the show Pati Brahmachari, feels that the youth today is working hard to make the nation progress.
He said, “Today’s youth will be tomorrow’s elders. The elders we have today were once young too, and at that time, they brought changes, upgraded things, and worked for them. As we know, in our culture, men and women usually retire after their sixties. So, in our young age, we do something for our country, our culture, or our society.”
“Even today’s youth is making changes, and yes, things are definitely changing. It matters; the nation is growing, and I agree with that,” he added.
Speaking about the risks of misinformation in today’s fast-paced digital world, he said, “The youth can be misled, and honestly, anyone can be misled. About the overload of information earlier, people had to work hard to get the knowledge they wanted. They had to go to certain places, do research, and take references. Only then could they get the knowledge they needed.”
“Now, so much information is available in the market through social media, Instagram, and the internet. Anyone can get what they want instantly. I don’t think having so much information available is wrong. The real problem is what to take and what not to take,” he added.
Worship mentioned that the youth today needs education. He said, “The new generation is smart enough to know. We have verified pages and authentic sources. They know that if the information comes from this page or this media, it is valid; otherwise, it’s not. They can easily tell the difference between fake news or fake knowledge and genuine knowledge. I’m glad our youth is so smart. They know that if something is written somewhere, it could be false, and they immediately cross-check it and find the correct news or correct knowledge.”
“So yes, youth should know what information to take, what is right, and what is wrong. We must always have that sense of checking whether the information is correct or not,” he added.
He believes the youth today should upgrade themselves without becoming emotionless. “Make yourself more informative. Make yourself advanced. Accept technology, but don’t lose your culture. Don’t lose your traditions. If we follow Western culture or Western techniques, it’s fine to adopt them,” he said.
“Today we have robots, AI, and many things available at our fingertips. But our country has its own culture, traditions, and upbringing. When we combine these with modern things, that’s when the real magic happens,” he added.
However, he stressed that they shouldn’t forget their roots. “We should never forget which country we belong to, where we were raised, and the culture we are known for. We should never leave behind the traditions and values that define us. We should grow them along with everything else,” Worship ended.
