Chandigarh: In a compelling evening of theatre, Rudra Kyra Productions LLP, under the leadership of President Shuchi Singh, successfully presented the thought-provoking play Out of Frame at the Tagore Theatre Mini Auditorium. The performance delivered an intense and emotionally stirring experience, reviving the spirit of socially conscious storytelling on stage.
A Story Inspired by the Spirit of Classic Cinema
The 1-hour and 10-minute stage production, directed by acclaimed filmmaker and theatre director Amit Sanouria, draws inspiration from the narrative style of the iconic 1960s film Pyaasa. Much like the film’s protagonist Vijay—a poet rejected by society for speaking uncomfortable truths—the play introduces audiences to Kabir, a rebellious artist who refuses to compromise with hypocrisy and injustice.
Supreet Singh Brings Kabir’s Character to Life
Actor Supreet Singh portrays Kabir with a restrained yet deeply expressive performance. Embracing a poetic and understated look reminiscent of the cinematic persona of the 1960s, Singh’s portrayal reflects quiet defiance, emotional intensity, and reflective silences.
This visual and emotional homage reinforces the play’s central message—how individuals who challenge societal norms are often labeled unstable, inconvenient, or dangerous.
A Social-Psychological Drama on Truth and Isolation
Out of Frame unfolds as a gripping social-psychological drama, exploring the delicate balance between conformity and rebellion. Kabir’s refusal to accept moral compromise ultimately leads to his alienation—from his family, the art world, and society—mirroring the struggles faced by artists who dare to confront social hypocrisy.
Supporting performances by Sayyed Alim and Suchita Sharma further enriched the narrative, creating a layered ensemble that heightened the emotional depth of the play.
Minimalist Theatre That Focuses on Powerful Performances
The production embraced minimalist set design, symbolic staging, and sharp lighting, allowing the actors’ performances to remain the focal point. This approach aligned with Amit Sanouria’s belief in theatre as a space for raw, honest storytelling rather than spectacle.
With over 17 years of experience in theatre and cinema, and recognition at the National Youth Festival, Sanouria’s return to stage direction through Out of Frame received strong appreciation. His training at the Madhya Pradesh School of Drama and film studies at Griffith University, Australia was evident in the play’s cinematic pacing and visually restrained storytelling.
A Production That Sparks Reflection
The evening concluded with resounding applause and thoughtful reflection, as Out of Frame encouraged audiences to examine their own silence in the face of social injustice.
By blending the emotional soul of classic cinema with contemporary social realities, the play emerged not just as a successful theatrical event but as a reminder that honest art continues to challenge society across generations.
Under the guidance of Shuchi Singh, the production reflects Rudra Kyra Productions LLP’s continued commitment to meaningful storytelling and socially relevant theatre.
