“Everyone Has Worked for Free for Maharaj,” Says Riteish Deshmukh
Speaking about the passion and purpose behind the film, Riteish Deshmukh shared that Raja Shivaji was never merely a cinematic venture but a heartfelt mission to present the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with honesty and grandeur.
“This Marathi film has got the most screens in Maharashtra. We have read all the books, the history of Maharaj is not something that can be contained in one film. It was our job to show this film without compromising on history. Salman Khan is my brother, he was in both my films. I was working on writing the film for three and a half years. All the big actors have worked for free in this film, everyone has worked for free for Maharaj,” revealed Riteish Deshmukh.
He further added that releasing the film in both Marathi and Hindi was a conscious decision to ensure that families and younger generations across India could connect with and learn about the inspiring legacy of Shivaji Maharaj during the summer holidays.

The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast from both Hindi and Marathi cinema. Salman Khan makes a special guest appearance as Shivaji Maharaj’s loyal bodyguard Jiva Mahale, while Abhishek Bachchan portrays Sambhaji Shahji Bhosale, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s elder brother.
