On Mahatma Gandhi’s Death Anniversary, Subhash Ghai’s short film ‘Gandhi’ starring Manoj Bajpayee premieres on Waves OTT by DD

On the solemn occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary, celebrated filmmaker Subhash Ghai brings his much-discussed short film Gandhi to audiences worldwide via Waves OTT by DD. Featuring the powerhouse performer Manoj Bajpayee, the 30-minute docu-drama explores Gandhi’s relevance in today’s world, bridging the gap between historical legacy and modern perspectives.

Premiered earlier at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Gandhi has already sparked conversations for its thought-provoking narrative. The film follows a young boy, Ansh, who refuses to perform at a Gandhi Jayanti event, questioning the ideals of the Mahatma. With real archival footage woven into the storytelling, Gandhi provides a cinematic journey that challenges, informs, and ultimately connects audiences with Gandhi’s philosophy in a new light.

Reflecting on the significance of the release, Subhash Ghai shared, “Mahatma Gandhi isn’t just a leader but a moment that changed the course of history. His ideas of nonviolence and truth remain more relevant than ever in a world grappling with conflict. Through this film, I wanted to initiate a conversation, especially with the younger generation, about the depth of his philosophy beyond just historical events. I am grateful to Manoj Bajpayee for being a part of this journey and bringing his immense talent to the film. His dedication to meaningful cinema is truly commendable.”

Raju Hirani, renowned filmmaker added about the film, “an informative, emotional, engaging and a brilliant film every child should see.”

Ketan Mehta, renowned filmmaker further shared about the film, “It introduces Gandhi in today’s context.”
