In an exclusive insight, Mayon Group CEO Raghava Prasad shares how Mayon Infra grew from an electrical contracting venture into a full-fledged turnkey solutions provider delivering a million sq. ft. of projects. He highlights milestones, innovation, culture, and a commitment to global standards.
1. What inspired you to start Mayon Infra back in 2007, and how did your early experience as an electrical contractor shape the company’s long-term direction?
My career began at the grassroots level—as an electrical site supervisor overseeing on-ground installation at construction sites. This early, hands-on exposure helped me understand the systemic inefficiencies that plagued the industry. I repeatedly observed a lack of synergy between different construction disciplines, resulting in poor coordination, inconsistent quality, and dissatisfied clients. With multiple vendors working in silos, accountability became fragmented, and when problems surfaced, finger-pointing took precedence over solutions.
These recurring issues shaped my entrepreneurial vision. I was convinced that the industry needed one unified entity that could take complete responsibility across disciplines. This drove me to establish Mayon Infra with a clear mission: to integrate electrical infrastructure, civil construction, and interior execution within one organization. By merging international standards with deep local expertise, we aimed to eliminate coordination gaps and deliver seamless turnkey solutions. This principle of “single-point accountability” became the cornerstone of Mayon Infra’s long-term direction.
2. Looking back at Mayon Infra’s journey from its modest beginnings to becoming a full-service turnkey solutions provider, what milestones defined your growth?
Our journey has been defined by deliberate, strategic expansion. In July 2010, we evolved into a full-fledged MEP solutions provider, offering end-to-end services supported by strong design capabilities, project management excellence, and complete testing and commissioning expertise.
In March 2013, we expanded into turnkey office interiors, offering fully integrated design-and-build solutions with personalized service at competitive pricing. By June 2018, we entered the PEB engineering and construction domain, enabling us to deliver complex structural projects and maximize client ROI.
A major milestone arrived in January 2023, when we achieved ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 certifications, formalizing our commitment to quality, environmental stewardship, and occupational safety.
More recently, our transformation of a 200,000 sq. ft. facility for a leading American multinational financial services corporation in Bengaluru—completed within just four months—became a benchmark project. With over one million sq. ft. delivered across IT parks, innovation centres, and engineering facilities, these milestones reaffirm the strength of our integrated turnkey model.
3. Every entrepreneurial journey has hurdles. What were the toughest challenges you faced while scaling Mayon Infra, and how did you overcome them?
Scaling an integrated solutions company comes with complex challenges. One of our early hurdles was ensuring material authenticity. Distributor inconsistencies began to threaten our quality standards, prompting us to establish direct partnerships with OEMs. Though this required substantial relationship-building and higher upfront costs, it secured long-term reliability.
Maintaining quality while meeting aggressive timelines posed another challenge. To address this, we introduced shift-based execution, parallel workflow systems across civil, MEP, and interiors, and robust daily coordination mechanisms—dramatically improving efficiency.
Talent acquisition and retention remain a continuous challenge in our industry. We tackled this by building strong training ecosystems focused on green practices, modern technologies, and safety compliance, coupled with competitive compensation and career pathways. Our leadership team’s active presence on sites and direct engagement with teams helped foster trust, motivation, and performance.
4. Mayon Infra has delivered over a million square feet of projects. How do you ensure quality and customer satisfaction while balancing timelines and budgets?
At Mayon Infra, we view quality and timelines as complementary, not conflicting. Our approach hinges on methodical execution planning supported by stage-wise audits and in-depth post-installation reviews that identify root causes instead of superficial fixes.
Transparency is another pillar of our delivery framework. Clients receive real-time information on project progress, financials, and technical challenges through our monitoring systems. This fosters collaborative problem-solving and eliminates last-minute surprises during handover.
Our ISO-certified processes—9001 for quality, 14001 for environmental responsibility, and 45001 for safety—ensure that consistency and discipline are built into every project, regardless of scale or complexity.
5. With rapid industry evolution, how is Mayon Infra adopting innovation and international standards?
Our innovation approach is holistic. While we employ tools like 3D modelling, automated MEP systems, and real-time project tracking, true differentiation comes from integrated implementation. By breaking down organizational silos, we ensure that design, civil, and services teams work together from the planning stage, identifying conflicts long before execution.
We are also piloting prefabricated ducting, modular wall systems, IoT-based monitoring, and other modern methods to improve consistency and accelerate timelines. Sustainability is embedded into our operations—through the use of low-embodied-energy materials, fly ash alternatives, smart energy systems, controlled water curing, recycling practices, and waste segregation for reuse. Smart lighting, automated energy controls, and air-quality systems have become standard features across our projects.
6. With a workforce of over 350 professionals, what role do culture, training, and employee welfare play in sustaining Mayon Infra’s success?
Our culture is built on a simple yet powerful belief: quality is everyone’s responsibility. This mindset drives accountability across all levels—from site teams to senior management. We invest heavily in continuous learning, covering green construction, emerging technologies, PPE usage, and safety frameworks.
Leadership by example is central to our DNA. Our leaders strictly follow the same safety and quality norms expected from teams, making compliance a natural extension of culture rather than a rulebook directive.
Employee welfare is equally vital. We strive to create a supportive environment where individuals feel valued, recognized, and empowered to grow. This has helped us build a cohesive workforce—one that is skilled, motivated, and aligned with the company’s long-term vision.
