Kamala Trust Holds Candlelight Marches in Delhi and Mumbai to Mourn the Pahalgam Tragedy

New Delhi/ Mumbai, April 24, 2025 – In the wake of the heartbreaking tragedy that unfolded in Pahalgam, Kamala Trust organized solemn candlelight marches in New Delhi and Mumbai to mourn the lives lost and stand in silent solidarity with the grieving families. The marches were a quiet expression of shared pain and a call for justice in the face of a deeply distressing act of violence.

In Mumbai, the silent vigil was held near Mantralaya, under the statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. It was led by Mrs. Nidarshana Gowani, a social activist, philanthropist, and Trustee of Kamala Trust. Individuals from various communities, including children, transgender persons, and members of Bharat Vikas Parishad, joined the gathering—each holding a candle, their silence speaking louder than words. Among them was social advocate Mrs. Harshita Narvekar, who stood alongside others in mourning and reflection.

At the same time, a similar candlelight gathering took place in Sant Nagar, East Kailash, New Delhi, where people from all walks of life came together—united not by words, but by grief. The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow as community members bowed their heads in remembrance, expressing solidarity with the bereaved.

Speaking softly at the Mumbai gathering, Mrs. Gowani said, “What happened in Pahalgam is beyond comprehension. We are here not just to mourn, but to let every grieving soul know that they are not alone. The silence we share tonight is filled with sorrow, and with a plea for peace.”

The Kamala Trust’s initiative was not a demonstration, nor a protest, but a collective mourning—a public space to grieve together, to acknowledge the immense loss, and to quietly urge for accountability and humanity in the face of inhumanity.

These gatherings were moments of stillness and sorrow, and a reminder that the pain of such loss is carried by the nation. The candles that flickered in the dusk were symbols of memory—of lives that should never have been lost, and of a hope that such darkness may never return.
