Apple Finally Adds Receipt-Based Expense Sharing Tool Years After Android
New Delhi, June 2026: Apple is set to make dining and group payments significantly easier with a new bill-splitting feature arriving in iOS 27, according to reports ahead of the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026.
The upcoming tool will allow iPhone users to simply photograph a restaurant receipt and automatically divide expenses among group members based on the items each person ordered. The feature is expected to be integrated into the Wallet and Messages apps, streamlining one of the most common frustrations faced during group outings.
Smarter Expense Sharing Through Wallet and Messages
People familiar with Apple’s plans told Bloomberg that the new functionality will intelligently analyze receipts and calculate each participant’s share, including taxes and tips. Users will be able to assign purchased items to individual members of a group, making bill settlement faster and more accurate.
The bill-splitting feature will work alongside Apple Cash, Apple’s peer-to-peer payment service embedded within the Wallet app. Once expenses are calculated, payment requests can be sent directly to participants, allowing them to settle their share instantly.
Apple Watch Support Included
Apple is also extending the experience to wearable devices. Group members receiving payment requests will be able to view, approve, and complete transactions directly from their Apple Watch, eliminating the need to pull out their phones during the payment process.
The integration aims to create a seamless ecosystem where payments, notifications, and approvals can be managed across Apple devices.
Apple Cash Plays a Central Role
Apple Cash functions as a digital payment service within the Wallet app, enabling users to send and receive money through iMessage. Funds can be used anywhere Apple Pay or Visa is accepted and can also be transferred to linked bank accounts.
The new bill-sharing capability is expected to further strengthen Apple Cash’s position as a convenient everyday payment solution for iPhone users.
Additional Wallet Upgrades Expected
Beyond bill splitting, Apple is reportedly working on expanding the capabilities of the Wallet app in iOS 27. Future updates may allow users to create custom digital passes for gyms, events, workplaces, and other venues that require controlled access.
These enhancements align with Apple’s broader vision of turning the iPhone into a comprehensive digital wallet for payments, identification, access control, and personal credentials.
