Handpickd Delivers 9 Lakh Orders Without Single-Use Plastic, Avoiding 104 Tonnes of Waste

As India’s urban centers grapple with a growing mountain of over 280,000 tonnes of annual plastic waste, Handpickd, India’s first zero-stock fresh-commerce platform, has achieved a historic milestone. Since its launch in April 2024, the platform has successfully fulfilled over 9,00,000 orders, delivering 4.5 million units of fresh produce, entirely without the use of toxic plastic bags.

This achievement has effectively diverted 104 tonnes of plastic from India’s waste stream. To put this in perspective, Handpickd has offset a volume of plastic greater than the daily waste generation of the entire city of Gurgaon.

Eliminating the “Recycling Uncertainty”

While many households have turned to recycling paper and segregating waste, a harsh truth remains: consumers have zero control over the recycling process once the waste leaves their door. Often, even “eco-friendly” packaging ends up in the same landfills as plastic.

Handpickd eliminates this uncertainty by moving beyond the “disposable” mindset. The platform utilizes a Closed-Loop Reuse Model that puts Mother Earth first:

  • The Reusable Tray & Corrugated Cover: Instead of flimsy paper packaging, produce is delivered in sturdy trays protected by corrugated covers.

  • The Loop of Care: These elements are collected, sanitized, and reused. Handpickd maintains 100% control over the lifecycle of its packaging.

  • The Final Step: Only when a material can no longer be reused is it sent for certified recycling, ensuring nothing is left to chance or the landfill.

“Acche-Wale” Fresh: Safe for the Family, Safe for the Soil

The Handpickd philosophy is simple: Natural is best. By operating with zero warehousing and zero stocking, Handpickd delivers pesticide-free produce that moves directly from the farm to the kitchen. This “Acche-wale” fresh experience ensures that what enters a home is as pure as nature intended it to be.

Anant Goel, Founder & CEO of Handpickd, shared: “We aren’t just delivering vegetables; we are delivering a promise. Our model proves that you don’t have to sacrifice the planet for convenience. By matching supply to demand in real-time, we ensure that every potato or pomegranate arrives fresh and in its natural state. This is the only way fresh produce should ever move.”

A Model Built on Pride and Purpose

Co-founded by Anant Goel, Nitin Gupta, and Sahil Madan, Handpickd’s impact represents nearly half a day’s worth of total waste bound for the Bandhwari landfill. In less than a year, the platform has proven that a zero-plastic, zero-inventory model is not just a dream, it is a working reality serving thousands of families in Gurgaon, Noida, and Bangalore.

By choosing Handpickd, consumers are doing more than just buying groceries; they are participating in a system that respects the soil, protects the groundwater, and ensures a cleaner future for the next generation.
