The Architects and Sculpt Design Studio present Concrete Heaven, a private residence in Saraswati Vihar that explores the balance between expressive architecture and purposeful living. Designed under the leadership of Ar. Vardha Aggarwal, Founder of Sculpt Design Studio, the project reflects a sensitive response to context, client lifestyle, and contemporary residential needs while remaining rooted in vernacular understanding and Vaastu principles.
Concrete Heaven is a 3024 square foot residence completed in March 2024, conceived for a family with a single child. The brief focused on spatial generosity, clarity of movement, and long term functionality. From the outset, the intent was to create a home that could assert its identity within a dense neighborhood while offering an interior environment that felt calm, intuitive, and deeply personal. Functionality was not treated as a supporting layer but as the primary framework guiding every design decision. The architectural narrative begins with the facade, which establishes a strong yet composed presence. A restrained palette of black, grey, and muted white tones is used to articulate form rather than decoration. Vertical architectural elements introduce rhythm and depth, breaking the monotony of the surrounding streetscape. Curved surfaces soften the overall massing, ensuring the structure feels balanced rather than imposing. Vertical louvers on the upper level filter daylight, enhance privacy, and reduce heat gain, while carefully placed glazed openings allow natural light to enter without compromising comfort or control.
Material choices for the exterior were guided by durability, longevity, and ease of maintenance. The facade responds directly to environmental conditions, addressing shading, ventilation, and privacy while maintaining a clear architectural identity that remains contextual rather than isolated. Internally, the residence is organized through a clear zoning strategy that separates public, semi private, and private spaces without rigid physical barriers. The ground floor accommodates shared family functions such as the living area, dining space, and staircase. These zones are planned to encourage interaction while allowing fluid movement across the home. Circulation is intuitive and uncluttered, reinforcing efficiency and ease of everyday use.
The living room serves as both a social nucleus and a visual anchor. A neutral base palette allows material textures to take precedence. Warm wood surfaces introduce tactility and balance, while subtle arched elements soften transitions between spaces. Furniture placement prioritises comfort and conversation, ensuring the room functions effortlessly for both daily living and social gatherings. Art is introduced selectively, adding character without overwhelming the spatial language.
Flowing seamlessly from the living area, the family lounge is designed as a relaxed, informal zone. Organic seating forms and curved wall treatments are employed as ergonomic responses rather than stylistic gestures. These elements enhance comfort and help moderate acoustics, creating a sense of enclosure within an open plan layout. The staircase is conceived as a functional focal point that anchors the interior while enabling efficient vertical movement. Its placement ensures logical circulation, and the use of textured surfaces and controlled lighting enhances safety, durability, and continuity across floors. Natural light is a defining functional element throughout the home. Openings are oriented and sized to maximise daylight while limiting glare and excessive heat. This strategy reduces dependence on artificial lighting and enhances environmental comfort. Mechanical systems are integrated discreetly, preserving ceiling heights and maintaining visual calm.
Private spaces are designed with a focus on rest, storage, and adaptability. Bedrooms follow a restrained design language where comfort and function inform aesthetic choices. Built in furniture and integrated storage solutions are tailored to each room, reducing visual clutter and
Surface finishes are selected for durability, tactile quality, and long term upkeep. Across the residence, restraint defines the design approach. There is no excess and no visual distraction. Every element is considered through the lens of daily use, longevity, and spatial clarity. Art and artefacts are curated with intention, allowing architecture and space to remain the primary focus.
Concrete Heaven embodies Sculpt Design Studio’s approach to residential architecture. It is contextual, client driven, and function first. Rather than relying on spectacle, the home achieves presence through planning precision, material honesty, and thoughtful execution. The result is a residence that feels composed, effortless, and enduring, offering comfort, flexibility, and a strong sense of belonging.
