Kolkata, May 23, 2025: As the city of Kolkata gears up for the grand celebration of Durga Puja, one of its most iconic community clubs — Barisha Sabuj Sathi Club — is preparing to commemorate a significant landmark: its 85th year of Durga Puja celebrations. This year, the club promises a celebration like never before, paying tribute to UNESCO’s recognition of Durga Puja as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
A Historic Puja with Deep Roots in Bengal’s Culture
Established before India’s independence, Barisha Sabuj Sathi Club is one of the few pujas in Kolkata that have stood the test of time. Over the decades, the club has transformed into a cultural beacon, blending rich traditions with contemporary artistic expression. In past years, their unique and thought-provoking themes — such as the 2024 theme, “Bunun Gantha Jibon Katha” — have resonated with both the local community and visitors from across the city.
The club’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Their dedication to artistic excellence and cultural relevance has been recognised by top media platforms. In 2022, the club secured a place in the Top 20 of Asian Paints Sharod Shomman, and it has also been conferred with the Shera Barowari Bishesh Samman by Zee 24 Ghanta Mahapujo. Moreover, one of their past Durga idols has been preserved by the Behala Blind School, a prestigious institution associated with the Government of West Bengal, cementing their status as a heritage site in Bengal’s festive map.
Prime Location Offers Massive Footfall and Visibility
Situated at a crucial junction along Diamond Harbour Road, the club enjoys excellent connectivity via both public and private transport. The stretch is one of the busiest pandal-hopping routes in the city during the Durga Puja season. This year, the club has opened a new entrance directly from Diamond Harbour Road to ease visitor flow and accommodate the expected surge in footfall.
Barisha is also home to several prominent community pujas and personalities, and the Sabuj Sathi Club is located near the celebrated Barisha Club. Interestingly, it also holds cultural significance as the home of Lord Jagannath’s aunt during the annual Barisha Ratha Yatra, further rooting it in Kolkata’s spiritual heritage.
A Platform for Artistic Brilliance and Brand Visibility
With thousands of pandal-hoppers expected each day during the festive week, the club offers unmatched advertising opportunities to businesses and sponsors. Positioned along a national highway and visited by lakhs during Puja, the club offers prime display zones for branding, outreach, and visibility. Sponsors not only benefit from massive physical engagement but also align their brand with the cultural ethos of Bengal.
The club invites corporate houses, lifestyle brands, media houses, FMCG companies, and local entrepreneurs to become part of this prestigious celebration. A Google Drive link containing photographs and videos of past events and theme installations is also available for review to help potential partners experience the scale and impact of the event.
Social Commitment Beyond Festivities
Barisha Sabuj Sathi Club is not just known for its cultural brilliance — it also has a strong legacy of social service and community outreach. During the COVID-19 pandemic, and after Cyclones Amphan and Yaas, the club actively extended humanitarian aid to remote regions, particularly in South 24 Parganas district.
Their continued involvement in social welfare, education, and cultural events makes them a respected name in community development. The club regularly organises health camps, cultural workshops, and relief distribution drives, reinforcing their role as a trusted pillar in the local society.
