The occasion featured the launch of the book Lawyers of India in Freedom Struggle & in Independent India (1872-2022): 150 Years and Continued Glorious Contribution Toward the Centennial – 2047.

The event, hosted at “Shantha,” Neeti Bagh, saw a gathering of distinguished personalities. The esteemed Mr. K.K. Dr. Lalit Bhasin, President of SILF, elaborated on the book’s significance in preserving the historical contributions of legal professionals. “This book is an homage to the lawyers who have played a vital role in the independence movement and, more importantly, in the development of a legal system that is the backbone of India’s democracy,” he said.

The book covers the span of 150 years, from the colonial period through to contemporary times, shedding light on the lives and work of many lawyers who have shaped the country’s legal landscape. It honors influential figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das for their dedication to the cause of Indian freedom, while also highlighting the contributions of post-independence legal educators and practitioners.

The book highlights the deep influence of legal professionals not only during India’s fight for independence but also during the establishment and evolution of the Indian Republic. It speaks about the contributions of lawyers like Lala Lajpat Rai, whose tireless advocacy for social reforms and rights of Indians left a lasting legacy. Additionally, it highlights the role of legal professionals who have played a crucial part in the development of the Indian legal system post-independence, ensuring its adherence to justice, equality, and democratic principles.
