Apple’s Smarter Siri Delayed Until 2026: What We Know

Apple’s much-anticipated AI-powered Siri continues to remain just out of reach—but not for too long. According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Apple is expected to introduce its next-generation Siri with the iOS 26.4 update, slated for release in Spring 2026.

A Longer Wait for iPhone Users

While the final version of iOS 26 is scheduled to arrive in September 2025, users eager to experience the smarter Siri will need to wait a bit longer. The rollout of the upgraded Siri will reportedly happen months later, sometime in Spring 2026.

What’s Behind the Delay?

The launch of advanced Siri has already been delayed multiple times. Initially projected for a late 2024 release, it was later moved to Spring 2025—and now further postponed to 2026. The reasons? Technical challenges and quality concerns.

Apple’s Senior Vice Presidents Craig Federighi and Greg Joswiak addressed the delay, attributing it to Siri’s performance not meeting internal standards. Federighi explained that Siri “didn’t converge in the way that it needed to,” highlighting quality as the key issue.

Another complicating factor: Apple split Siri into two systems with iOS 18—one handling basic voice commands, the other focused on advanced AI features. Reintegrating these systems proved problematic, with persistent bugs and inconsistent performance slowing development.

Internal tensions have also played a role. Sources suggest friction between Apple’s AI engineering and marketing teams. While developers pointed to unrealistic marketing expectations, the marketing side blamed engineering for missed deadlines.

Why This Siri Upgrade Matters

This is not a routine update. The upcoming Siri upgrade represents a major milestone in Apple’s AI strategy. The enhanced Siri is expected to feature:

  • Deeper contextual awareness

  • More natural, human-like responses

  • Smarter app integration via a framework called App Intents

The assistant will leverage on-device data and real-time screen context to deliver personalized, intelligent replies—helping users complete both simple and complex tasks more efficiently.

In short, the new Siri aims to be more intuitive, responsive, and seamlessly integrated into the iPhone experience. While the wait continues, Apple users can look forward to a significantly more powerful digital assistant in the near future.
