Amit Rao Debuts in The Diary of Manipur: A Bold Cinematic Take on Manipur Violence

The ongoing violence in Manipur has captured global attention, yet solutions remain elusive. Addressing this critical subject, the makers of The Diary of West Bengal are now producing a new film, The Diary of Manipur. This socially charged project not only tackles a pressing issue but also marks the Bollywood debut of acclaimed theater actor Amit Rao.

Sanoj Mishra’s Vision

At a press conference in Mumbai, the film’s writer, producer, and director, Sanoj Mishra, shared his motivations for the project. Known for tackling controversial and socially relevant topics, Mishra aims to depict the harsh realities of Manipur’s violence. “As a filmmaker, it is my duty to present the truth about society through my work. Threats will not deter me,” Mishra said, referring to the backlash he has faced for his previous works, such as Kashi to Kashmir and The Diary of West Bengal.

Amit Rao’s Bollywood Debut

The film marks the entry of veteran theater artist Amit Rao into Hindi cinema. Speaking about his decision to take on this role, Rao shared, “I’ve received film offers for years but never took them seriously. When Sanoj Mishra narrated this story, I knew this was the right project for my debut. It’s a story that needs to be told.”

Star-Studded Cast and Production

Produced under the banner of Sanoj Mishra Films, the movie is co-produced by Yameen Khan, Javed Devariyavale, Dheerendra Thakur, and Sanjay Kumar. Publicity is being handled by Sanjay Bhushan Patiala. The film also features yoga guru Mansi Gulati and renowned devotional singer Anup Jalota in significant roles, while casting for other characters is underway.

A Bold Step Forward

With The Diary of Manipur, Sanoj Mishra seeks to shine a spotlight on critical social issues, compelling audiences to confront uncomfortable truths through the medium of cinema. The project promises to be a powerful blend of storytelling, art, and social commentary.
