Hero MotoCorp Reinvents Prayer Flags to Protect Himalayan Bikers

Riding the Himalayas: Adventure with Real Risks

Motorcycling through the Himalayas has emerged as one of India’s most sought-after adventure experiences, with thousands of riders tackling the demanding routes of Manali and Leh–Ladakh every year. While the thrill is undeniable, the risks are equally real—unpredictable weather, treacherous terrain, and long stretches without immediate medical assistance. For many riders, particularly those renting motorcycles locally, basic first-aid preparedness is often overlooked.

To address this critical gap, Hero MotoCorp introduced Prayers for Safety, an innovative initiative conceptualised by Saatchi & Saatchi India.

Faith Meets Function: Prayer Flags Turned First-Aid Kits

At the heart of the initiative is a powerful cultural insight. Tibetan prayer flags, long regarded as symbols of protection, well-being, and hope, are commonly tied to motorcycles by Himalayan riders as a ritual of faith. Hero MotoCorp reimagined these iconic prayer flags as portable first-aid kits, seamlessly blending belief with preparedness.

By transforming a deeply symbolic object into a functional safety solution, the initiative makes first aid accessible, meaningful, and easy to carry—right on the handlebars.

Embedding Safety into Riding Rituals

Rolled out across key biking hubs in Manali and Leh–Ladakh, the Prayers for Safety kits were distributed through bike rental points, bikers’ cafés, and custom-designed prayer-flag dispensers. By integrating safety into an existing riding ritual, Hero MotoCorp ensured that preparedness became a natural part of the journey—especially crucial in remote regions where medical help is often hours away.

Hero MotoCorp on Prioritising Rider Well-Being

Speaking about the activation, Aashish Midha, Head of Marketing, Hero MotoCorp Ltd., said:

“At Hero MotoCorp, rider safety is not an afterthought—it’s a fundamental part of who we are and what we stand for. As the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, we recognize that true mobility means ensuring every rider, every family, and every community returns home safely. We believe rider safety is a shared responsibility, especially in environments where basic first aid or medical help is not easily accessible. Prayers for Safety reflects our intent to go beyond business revenue by addressing real on-ground challenges through simple, culturally rooted solutions.”

Saatchi & Saatchi India on Turning Insight into Impact

Kartik Smetacek, Chief Creative Officer, Saatchi & Saatchi India, added:

“This was one of those ideas that was as useful as it was clever. Not just identifying the problem, but solving it in a simple, elegant way—by transforming something symbolic into something practical. Huge credit to our wonderful clients at Hero MotoCorp for backing the idea and rolling it out at scale.”
