Diwali with Daughters: Annapurna Girls Hostel Lights Up Joy for Students Who Couldn’t Travel Home

Greater Noida, 11 October 2025: To bring the warmth of home to students who were unable to return for Diwali, Annapurna Girls Hostel organized a warm and emotional celebration of Diwali titled “Diwali with Daughters”. This celebration aimed to make these daughters feel cared for, included, and part of a family away from their home.

Located near top universities like Sharda University, Noida International University, Amity University, and Galgotia University and a student-conducive and safe space, the hostel celebrated the festival of Diwali by decorating with diyas, rangoli, and sweets to create a festive and joyful atmosphere, while also inviting the residents to engage in diya-making, design their own rangoli, and partake in cultural festivities to help make the space festive and colourful and a space of joy on campus.

The gathering concluded with a neighborhood dinner featuring festive food and sweets that evoked the spirit of community and celebration. Management and wardens joined the participants in lighting a diya, which represents hope, positivity, and new beginnings.  This event was an extension of the continuing initiative at Annapurna to establish well-being and emotional comfort for students who may be feeling somewhat homesick. It also fostered a sense of sisterhood among residents and conveyed the message that while different holidays may be distinct, they can all be equally meaningful when shared in a safe and loving environment.

Chairperson of Annapurna Girls Hostel, Kunwar Gaurav Giri, stated, “Many of our students are from different areas of study and are unable to go home for festivals due to distance.” We saw this as an opportunity to create space for students to experience family warmth and the feeling of celebration. Diwali with Daughters is a reminder for students that they are not alone — Annapurna is their second home.”

The “Diwali with Daughters” celebration encapsulated Annapurna’s philosophy of care, comfort, safety, and community—ultimately helping students not only live safely but also thrive emotionally and culturally while living independently through their education.
